Goal: 
   
     Students will have an awarness of earthquakes, what causes earthquakes, and how to prepare for earthquakes and be safe during an earthquake.

Aim: 
    
   For sixth grade students to have an understanding of earthquakes, what causes earthquakes, and how to prepare for an earthquake and be safe during an earthquake.

Objectives: 
 
On completing this curriculum web, students will be able:
     Identify the tree types of plate movement, explain the three major layers of the earth, explain the three major layers of the earth, determine what is the ring of fire and it effects on earthquakes.
     Use websites to find facts about earthquakes.
     Demonstrate how earthquakes effect human living conditions; i.e. earthquake profit homes, business, etc.
     Explain how families can deal with the dangers of earthquakes; i.e. suggestion on what to do during earthquakes.
     Create an information pamphlet on earthquakes using a word processing application including graphics if needed.
     Appreciate other students' work and give constructive criticism.
     Exhibit effective collaboration skills working in small groups to complete the tasks.

Rational:

  The Department of Education for the State of Arizona has recently revised the state standards for science.  At the same time Cartwright Elementary School District has purchase new science kits to support these new standards.  The popluation of my district are students that are second language learners.  They have the highest stake.  As second language learners thye need additionaly ways of learning from the traditional to meet their needs.
